Designing for the Algorithm
Most websites are built for human eyes. The design is visual, the layout is fluid, and the text relies on context.
But Large Language Models (LLMs) and AI search engines do not see your beautiful typography. They read raw code. If your website's underlying structure is chaotic, the AI will not understand what you do, and it certainly won't recommend you.
Semantic Clarity Over Visual Flair
To make your website digestible for an AI answer engine, you must prioritize semantic HTML and structured data.
1. Heading Hierarchies (H1 to H6) An LLM uses heading tags to understand the logical structure of your arguments. If you use an H2 tag just to make a piece of text bold and large, you are breaking the logical hierarchy. Use headings exclusively to outline your content.
2. Strict Schema Markup
JSON-LD schema markup is the most direct way to speak to a search engine. Do not rely on the AI to guess your pricing, your location, or your services. Implement strict Service, Organization, FAQPage, and LocalBusiness schema to hand them the exact data they need.
3. Unambiguous Entity Naming Avoid clever marketing names for standard services. If you offer "B2B Lead Generation," call it that in your primary headings. If you brand it as "Revenue Acceleration Synergy," an AI model will struggle to map that to a user's search intent.
The next step: View the raw HTML source of your homepage. If you cannot easily read and understand the hierarchy of the business offering without the CSS, neither can an AI.
